instructions on how to do the downpipes without removing the engine (definitely not needed), or dropping the tranny (optional). downpipe install Lots of folks have done it that way. IF you run into complications, like a broken downpipe stud on the turbo, you won't be able to repair it without dropping the tranny, which the purists will tell you is the preferred method to install the DP's in the first place. Okay, this is the part that REALLY bugs Yugo, Harry and Spee. I took those above instructions to Midas and they installed the DP's for me. The convenience was great. I left the car in the AM, came back after work and they were done. One of the studs on the driver's side turbo snapped off. They told me about it. I called Coz, the guy who sold me the DP's. He said that stud was not critical (facing the back of the engine, the lower, left stud) and that it was a fairly common occurrence. You can imagine how baked the metal is around there. We tested the install and it was tight with no leaks. So I drove around for quite some time with one broken stud on one DP, until it was time to replace my clutch, and then I took that opportunity to have the stud replaced. IF you drop the tranny to put in the DP's, you will be able to deal with any glitches like that at the time they occur. You be the judge.
